Are Over-Priced Concerts Worth it?
Justin Bieber is to perform at the Moda Center in March of 2016. A single ticket in the 100 rows is $300, while a meet and greet ticket costs a colossal amount of $2,000. Many may argue that $2,000 is well worth the amount of meeting their celebrity idol for 30 seconds, even after standing in line for one to two hours. As number two on the Billboard Top 100 artists, Bieber has many fans who continue to show their love and support, which includes paying the spendy price to meet him.
“Yes I think it’s worth it because if you’re meeting someone that you idolize and you have the money to meet them, it won’t be something you regret,” Frances Komoda ‘19 said.
In contrast to Bieber, Ellie Goulding has concert ticket prices ranging from $35 to $60. Even though Bieber is more known than Goulding, both have received Brit awards and are number one selling artists.
Thus, the prices should not have such a drastic change. Some stars have bigger egos than others, thinking they may be worth more. This is one possibility to why there is a wide range of prices for meet and greets, even if two people have the same net worth.
“It isn’t worth it,” Lauren Spady ‘19 said. “I would rather spend my money on buying shoes or food, something better than a celebrity selling themselves.”
