BILL, BILL, BILL, BILL, BILL NYE THE [Movie] GUY
Bill Nye’s quest to change the world is taking a giant leap forward as filmmakers and lovers-of-science David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg have teamed up with the famous science guy to make a new documentary about climate change, doubling as an in-depth look at the life and work of Bill Nye “The Science Guy.” Contrary to his videos from the 90s, this new documentary will be “a more scientifically literate and engaged universe,” the filmmakers say.
“I did watch his old show, but I didn’t know that he had a movie coming out. I think it would be interesting to see, personally,” Ashley Zhu ‘18 said.
The filmmakers decided that it would be a win-win for everyone if the people who have been influenced by Bill Nye were able to help fund the movie. They set up a kickstarter July 14, 2015 for donations.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to donate to his kickstarter page,” Joe Hunt ‘18 said.
Each donation also came with a prize depending on how much one donates. Prizes range from bow ties to t-shirts to frisbees to “science rules!” temporary tattoos and more. By Aug. 13, the film raised $859,426; $209,426 over what they needed, and more than enough to begin production on the film.
As of October, the filmmakers have said that they will be filming with Bill Nye for one more year.
“I can’t wait to go see it next year,” Hunt ‘18 said.
The movie is scheduled to come out by 2017.
