Girls Swimming Win GVC Districts
On Feb 13, the girls swim team won the Greater Valley Conference [GVC] districts for the first time since 2009. South scored 351 points beating the former champions, McMinnville, by eight points. South took an early lead in the meet, opening with the girls team winning the 200 medley relay with the time of 1:54:57. The relay team consisted of Anna Despain ‘18, Jamie Zuckerman ’17, Joanna Zuckerman ‘17, and Victoria Privalova ‘19. Despain also won the only individual race, the 200 Individual Medley [IM] with the time of 2:12:19.
Although the girls won the GVC districts this year, there is still some room to improve for swimmers as individuals. Some swimmers are trying to break the school swim records and they are striving to reach that goal.
“Next year I want to improve on my strokes and my best times and keep working towards the records at South,” Despain said.
During the season, many of the swimmers had great chemistry with each other and give each other moral support while their teammates compete.
“It feels really good this year we really grew together as a girls team and we all became really close,” Despain said.
