April Fools 2016: Probing Into the Pranks
The date of April 1 is infamously known as the world-wide holiday, April Fools Day. As per the tradition of carrying out elaborate and nonsensical pranks, many companies, websites, and celebrities have caused both mayhem and hilarity. Pranks this year have included “real-life reality glasses”, “Cornhub”, John Stamos’ takeover of Netflix, and even Tom Hiddleston giving the daily weather as Loki in Chicago.
There was rumored to be potential student pranks to celebrate April fool’s at South Salem High School, but the common affliction of teenage laziness seems to have prevented such events. Tumblr, the social media blogging website bought by Bing, has launched a full-fledged campaign between four unique lizards, Rick, Deborah, Wretched Tooth, and Mop. Users can vote for one of these hat-wearing lizards until the end of the day, at which point the event to occur is unknown.
In the opposite of the April Fool’s Day spirit, China has actually banned practice and acknowledgement of the holiday, and it doesn’t appear to be a joke. For all the world knows, it could merely be an elaborate international prank, but until tomorrow, no one will know.
