Star Wars Episode XIII Theories

There are many theories about the yet-to-be-named Star Wars film coming out in 2017. Fans have been speculating since the release of The Force Awakens about unanswered plot elements and some could actually be plausible.

Friendly reminder: Fan speculation can be very fun to read, but should always be taken with grain of salt. There are spoilers from episode seven.

Who are Rey’s Parents? This has been a huge topic of speculation in the Star Wars universe. Many lovers of the film think that Rey is a member of the Skywalker family; the daughter of the estranged Luke or maybe even Han and Leia since she bonded with them so quickly. Many dedicated fans have even compared her likeness to Leia’s and Amidala’s, claiming a possible relation. Others believe, going completely off her accent, that she could be the granddaughter or great granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi. But, director J.J. Abrams crushed all those rumors saying neither of Rey’s parents were in the seventh film. Many fans are dismissing this information though as Abrams is known to leak false informations about his films to send theorists off track.

“I get that a lot of people believe that Rey is supposed to be Luke’s granddaughter or something of those sorts. Stereotypically Rey is considered to be a Skywalker due to the fact that the Skywalkers have been the main gag in all the Star Wars movies. But, it may be more about Kylo Ren instead of just Rey,” Kainoa Ho’okano ‘16 said.

Who is Supreme Leader Snoke? A popular theory is that he could be Darth Plagueis who was the master of Palpatine or Darth Sidious. At the end of Return of The Jedi, when Sidious is thrown down the shaft by Vader, a blue light comes out which is believed to be dark Force energy. Many believe that the Force energy was Plagueis Force spirit, and that it inhabited Vader’s dying body. Then, after Luke burned the body, he pulled himself out of the flames, grabbed the mask which eventually came into Kylo ren’s possession, and renamed himself Snoke. The scars on Snoke’s face even line up almost perfectly with the ones on Vader’s at the end of film.

“I don’t really think she’s a remake of Anakin due to the fact that she has a lot more sense of good in her and I don’t think she’ll go and kill a bunch of kids,” Ho’okano said.

Those two theories could actually be intertwined with another popular theory; Rey is the reincarnation of Anakin. This would explain the lack of parental figures for her in the film, and why she is so knowledgeable in the Force even though she was never taught. Rey could not only harness the Force, but also hold her own in a lightsaber battle against Kylo Ren with no training whatsoever. Snoke created Rey to be his replacement since Anakin failed. He still wanted his perfect body.

The film is scheduled for release of Dec.15, 2018.
