South Salem Loses to West Salem Titans

On Oct. 22 the Saxons faced the Titans on Bennett field and suffered a loss to the eighth ranked team in the state. With Elijah Enomoto-Haole ‘19 as starting quarterback, South managed to score early in the first quarter after an end zone pass to Andres Delgado ‘19 for the touchdown. The blocked extra point left the Saxons up 6-0 with six minutes left in the first quarter.
Early in the game, South’s defensive line was working hard to keep the Titans from scoring, and succeeding for a good stretch of time. Unfortunately, West was able to find weak spots in South’s defense and used them without fail. By halftime the Titans had a substantial lead.
After a soaked and chilly first half, hope seemed to be lost for the Saxons to pull out a win against the undefeated West Salem Titans. But the Saxon spirit stayed alive throughout the battle as the student section continued to cheer through the pouring rain. West Salem walked away with a 45-9 victory against South and secured their spot as league champions for another week. They will play the McNary Celtics next week at West for their last league game.
Be sure to support your South Salem Saxons on Friday, Oct. 28, as they face Forest Grove in Viking territory for their final league game. Forest Grove will go into this game with zero wins so far this season and ranked 46 in the state. It is crucial that the Saxons get a win in order to secure the best possible placement for playoffs.
