Girls Take 3rd in State

At the conclusion of the regular season, the Girls Varsity team won the Greater Valley Conference with a perfect season record of 14-0. The playoffs started on Mar. 1. The girls were ranked #2 and had two home playoff games when the tournament first started. If the girls play like they did in the regular season then they might be unstoppable and possibly go for a 3peat. On March 1st the OSAA playoffs began and that’s when the Saxons faced Tuallitan in the first round. In the game the Saxons dominated winning 70-48 with amazing performances coming from Evina Westbrook 17’ and Dani Harley 17’. On March 4th the Saxons faced the West Salem Titans in the quarterfinals. In the game both teams played tremendous defense in the first half, but as the second half started the Saxons picked it up on offense to win 54-36. Their next game is on the 9th against Sunset at 8:15 pm. When South faced  Sunset last Thursday the two teams struggled to get things going but once the second half kicked off the Saxons started on an 11-3 run and eventually won 55-48 and will face Oregon City on March 10th. In the game against #6 Oregon City South had an off playing day especially for Evina Westbrook 17’ and the Saxons lost 54-46. With the Saxons loss they will face Grant High school for 3rd/5th place. Before the game against #4 Grant South experience something unusual when their Milk Wagon Bus got broken into and some of the players had their basketball gear stolen. As for the game itself  the Saxons had a rough going in the first half and midway towards the 4th quarter and eventually coming back from a 20 point deficit to win 3rd place in State.
