As the school year comes to an end, the search for summer jobs begin. Many teens will be looking for a job to gain some income over summer. In the state of Oregon, teens are legally allowed to start working at 14 years old, with a work permit and 15 without a work permit.
One great opportunity for teens in the summer is working at the Oregon State Fair. The oregon state fair employs hundreds of people to run booths, games and other miscellaneous  things that ensure the fair runs smoothly. This is an easy way for teens to make some spending money in a short amount of time. One downfall to this job is that it is temporary due to the fair only lasting for about 2 weeks.
Another option for teens over summer is working at a fast food restaurant. Working in fast food may not be the most glorious job but it is better than no job. Fast food is not a super physically demanding job, but it also is not the easiest due to dealing with hungry customers. Fast food also offers people a lot of hours if they want them, so if students get a fast food job they will never complain about not getting enough hours.
An option for teens is also grocery stores like Roth’s or Fred Meyers. Roth’s is almost always hiring for the summer, and they are more than willing to hire high school students. Roth’s is a great opportunity for teens to get job experience that will benefit them in the future and teach them valuable lessons. This is also an employer that will hire those who do not have much experience.
Here is a tip for teens who are getting a job this summer: work hard, no matter what the job. Whether flipping burgers or stocking shelves, do it to the best ability possible. When flipping burgers be the best burger flipper possible. It may not be fun at first but managers will notice, and working hard will only be beneficial.
