South’s softball team continues their season with seven scheduled league games left, including one today against Sprague. Highlights for the team so far are wins against McKay and North Salem.
“Our biggest strength is our offense and generating runs,” Maygen McGrath 18’ said.
Currently the team is hard at work to improve according to coach Scott McCormick, and he hopes to see that translate over to successes in the rest of the season.
“We have had good moments and some not so good moments,” coach McCormick said. “We have a lot of new kids playing new positions so there have been some struggles, but also some silver lining moments. Senior Alison Gebhardt has been solid for us all year hitting, and we have had some really good games from sophomore Maygen McGrath and juniors Amber Enomoto Haole and Cecilia Davalos. Our other senior Tori Swanson has also been really consistent in the outfield.”
“What I like best about softball,” Cecilia Davalos ‘17 said, “is how much of a team we are, and how overall softball is more of a mental game. An area that I think we need to improve on is our hitting mainly and our defense, but I think if we get a little more chemistry in the team, because we have a few newer girls, everything will go steady and smooth.”
