South Salem High School’s track team has participated in three track meets so far, competing at Lake Oswego, West Albany, and McMinnville. The team has been practicing their individual events in order to be prepared for the meets ahead. They treat every practice as if it were a true meet, and that they were competing.
“We [sprinters and distance runners] do a lot of sprints, 100 meter, 200 meter, just to keep us ready for every week. We practice our relays, our hand offs, long distance runs around basically Salem,” Drake Hall ‘18 said.
This year of track is slightly different from the years before since the teams have been concentrating more on team bonding and team building activities. Activities such as “secret sisters,” where the girls will give gifts, go to team dinners, and play games.
“We’ve been doing a lot more stuff as a group, like team bonding stuff, so we’ve done dinners, and the girls have been doing secret sister stuff where we get each other gifts. We’ve been doing other group activities, like the other day we played frisbee-golf as a team, to practice team bonding,” Chloe Bryant ‘16 said.
