On Sunday, May 1 in Dallas, Texas, the South Salem culinary team placed fifth out of the 47 teams present at the Annual National ProStart Invitational. They competed at 8:30 a.m. and streamed live
According Todd Wieweck, the culinary arts teacher at South, claimed that they were the only school that not did not have a technical culinary program to place. The other four were technical high schools, while South is a regular education. Representing Oregon, they finished behind Ohio, Michigan, Texas, and Kansas. Ohio won first.
This was South’s fourth finish as part of the top-six at nationals, only beat by its fourth-place win in 2012.
The members of the team include Anna Donahe ‘16, Lenis Camara Hernandez ‘17, Sage Monaghan ‘16, Draven Moorehead ‘16, and Karaline Richey ‘17.
They competed at 8:30 a.m. CDT [6:30 a.m. PDT] and streamed live on the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation [NRAEF] website.
