South’s girls and boys golf teams were successful at districts on May 2 and 3. All members of the girls team, and individual player Trevor Lawrence ‘16, headed to state on May 16 and 17.
“Overall districts went really well,” Ellie Slama ‘17 said. “I thought I played well and my team did really great. Individually I won and as a team we won first place, which was great.”
As well as a first place win by Slama, South’s Ashley Zhu ‘18 placed third at districts and Sammy Belden ‘17 placed seventh.
“Our team did better then we expected,” Zhu said. “We’d hoped to win in the first place but we won by a landslide this year.”
State qualifier, Trevor Lawrence, scored his career best of 75 during the district tournament. The boys missed qualifying as a team for regionals, but will send player Lucas Hyatt ‘16 to attempt to qualify for state.
“Trevor Lawrence scored his career best, he had to have a playoff to get there and he won his playoff. Lucas Hyatt qualified for regionals, and again, he had to have a playoff, so he had two sudden death playoffs and he succeeded. That was pretty awesome,” Pomme, coach of the boys’ team, said.
