Oregon fans of the broadway hit ‘Hamilton’ will not have to ‘wait for it’ any longer to see the record-breaking musical that has been nominated for 16 Tony awards. The popular broadway show has revealed that, on their national tour, they will perform in Portland.
“I’m so excited. I think it’s also a sign that Portland is going to have to be excepted pretty soon as a major theater venue, and that’s going to bring a lot of awesome talent to Oregon, which I’m really looking forward to,” Max Morter ‘17 said.
The show itself covers the life and death of Alexander Hamilton; immigrant and American founding father who was known for writing ‘like he was running out of time.’ The musical features hip-hop inspired music and many of the lyrics are rap-based.
“You don’t have to like history to enjoy Hamilton, because it’s mostly about just Hamilton’s life and his experiences which are still recognizable. The way the play is done is relatable and recognizable with even current events,” Brooklyn Housworth ‘18 said.
Whether the current cast or a new cast will perform has yet to be revealed.
“What I’ve heard is that going to see the show is like listening to the album but live, so I’m totally cool if there’s new cast. I’d love to see what the talent in Portland could bring to the show,” Morter said.
Hamilton enthusiasts will have to wait just a little longer for the the show to be featured in Portland. It has been announced that the hip-hop-infused retelling of the American Revolution will perform sometime between July 2017 and the end of 2018.
“That would be great, sounds awesome to me,” Ariel Blain ‘17 said. “ Ready for it. I’m willing to wait for it.”
