The previous season of Saxon football ended with an undefeated regular season record, which therefore allowed them to claim the top spot in the Greater Valley Conference [for the second time in a row]. The Saxons are losing some seniors in key positions next year, including Gabe Matthews ‘16 who played quarterback, and Joseph Carry ‘16 who was the team’s top receiver and in the rotation for defensive backs.
The Saxons are training for the next season, in addition to many football athletes competing in multiple sports. Every week, Tuesday through Thursday, many football players participate in conditioning that includes sprinting, plyometrics, weight lifting, calisthenics, and footwork. They also occasionally compete in the sun, pushing 300 pound sleds, flipping tires around the field, and running sprints in a intense circuit.
Many saxon players are optimistic about the team, but some are concerned with the large gaps to fill at some key positions on both offense, and defense.
