The Saxon boy’s soccer team has only one loss so far in their 2016 season to Lakeridge High School and one tied game against Corvallis High School. Many of the players feel that this year, the boys feel more connected as a team than they have in years past.
The Saxon boys’ comradery adds another level of trust and unity between the teammates.
“This team is like a family. Everybody on the team is there for one another, allowing us to feel comfortable with each other on and off the field.” Leo Kanaskie ‘17 said.
The team attributes a lot of this connection to the fact that a majority of the team has played together, either in school programs or on club teams, for many years.
“This year our team has a big class of seniors who have had a lot of experience at the high school and club level.” Mateo Rey-Rosa ‘17 said.
The team credits their ability to adapt and perform under many different game situations to the years of experience that the players have had together.
“I have no worries about facing West. They have great players and are not to be underestimated, but I believe in my team and what we are capable of,” Kanaskie ‘17 said referring to their upcoming game against West Salem High School on Oct. 4th. The team feels confident that the game will go in their favor despite the fact that it will be one of their more challenging league opponents.
Many of the players are optimistic about their chances of making it far into the postseason.
“All the way [to the championships], no question. We are willing to do anything we need to do to get the win,” Kanaskie ‘17 said.
