Salem Keizer Public Schools have an array of requirements that they must meet to be approved as a school. These requirements include things such as school inspections, internal audits, reported waivers, and school compliance with rules and regulations. Other than the lawful standards that make a school an approved school, other qualities can help contribute to it as well.
What does success look like?
“Offering lots of different clubs and extracurricular activities so students can be well rounded is something that would make a school really successful.” Shelby Krugar ‘18 said.
According to a study done by James Pivarnik and colleagues at the American College of Sports Medicine on livestrong.com, middle school students that received good fitness scores also had better academic grades as well. So having more extra curricular activities and more sports may be a contribution to racking up good grade point averages.
.A good classroom environment helps the students and the teachers, so having a healthy student-teacher relationship is important.
“I think communication with students and teachers both, and also working together. Being open to ideas students have, so not just being closed minded and actually listening to their students.” Diana Castaneda ‘19 said
The National School Public Relations Association said that effective two-way communication is cited as a necessary trait for success at all levels of education. This said, communication can be a key aspect of a successful school, since that will help all people in the school, students, teachers, principal, or district, to all be in good understanding.
“Having good organization through the school and having a team of teachers that communicate with each other is successful. And encourage one and one time with students and ask questions.” Krugar said.
