Dinah Walsh, office manager at the Career Technical Education Center, won a Crystal Apple award Thursday in honor of her educational skills. Thirteen of Salem Keizer School District professionals were recognized as well for their achievements, and they all enjoyed the glow of the night with their fans there for support. Julianna Gibbons, Matt Smith, and Bill Snyder, all teachers from South, were all nominated.
The Crystal Apple Award is given to educators who go out of their way to help their students, and do a more than exceptional job of aiming them towards success.
“As an employee of any school district, you work as hard as you can with one goal in mind: to impact the lives of students in the most positive way possible,” Mariah Fleener, Walsh’s co-worker, said.
The Crystal Apple Award nominees receive a chance to a red carpet walk and live music from the Flextones to reward them for their achievements.
“This event is truly about honoring outstanding teaching professionals who touch the lives of children,” Tom Hewitt, a retired drama teacher, said.
