It has been 108 year miracle in the making , but the Chicago Cubs have finally won the Pennant, with their last win being in 1908. Cubs fans have been waiting a long time for their streak to break, and now it has finally happened. Some people may be wondering why they have not won in such a long time. The logical answer is just wins and losses, but most fans of the MLB think it is something different; there are curses that have plagued the franchise.
There are rumored to be 15 different curses that have plagued the Cubs Franchise for 71 years, including the Ronnie Woo Hoo curse and the Wayne Messmer curse, among others.
The most famous of the rumored 15 curses that the Chicago Cubs Organization comes from 1945, when the Chicago Cubs were facing the Detroit Tigers in the World Series when in Game 4, Billy Sianis, the owner of a local business called the Billy Goat Tavern, was escorted out of the game for bringing his pet goat, Murphy with him, whom apparently stunk. After the incident, Sianis stated that the Cubs are not going to win another World Series ever.
But now, in 2016, they have broke the curse and won this year’s World Series. The Cubs last World Series Pennant before this year in 1908, multiple things that we use everyday did not exist, like sliced bread, Band-Aids, and even three of the four major sports leagues [the NFL, NHL, and NBA]. The streak is now over, however, and Cubs fans can rejoice as the new MLB Champions.
