As many late South students can attest, on Nov. 28 there was a road closure from northbound Commercial Street and Rural Avenue SE, until the split onto Liberty and Superior Street SE due to a car that left the road and struck a tree. No other vehicles were found at the scene.
The driver of the maroon 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, a Gervais man named Andrew Ramon, 32, was found dead inside the vehicle. An estimated time of the crash is 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Liberty Street SE and Superior Street SE, but the scene was closed for over eight hours due to the police needing complete daylight to process the scene.
Police responded at approx. 1:37 a.m. Lt. Dave Okada, a Salem police spokesperson, says there is no reason for the crash so far. The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information on the accident should contact Salem police Detective Corporal Jeff Keniston at 503-588-6050, ext. 7163.
