The South Salem choir will be singing tonight at the 35th annual Capitol tree lighting ceremony. They will begin at 5:00 p.m. and continue for half an hour, with their set list including songs like Silent
Night, Oh Come All Ye Faithful, Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel, Christ the Apple Tree, Angels We Have Heard on High, and Noel Ayisyen.
Others that will be present to light the Grand Tree in the Capitol Rotunda are Santa and Mrs. Claud, Governor Kate Brow, House Speaker Tina Kotek, and Senator Jackie Winters. Free photos with Santa and refreshments will be available after the program.
The inside of the Rotunda will be decorated along with the presence of the Grand Tree. Common decorations include stacks of faux presents, fake snow and glitter, holiday banners, large red bows, and a working train set on a miniature winter scene wound around the tree’s trunk.
The capitol is located at 900 Court Street NE, zip 97301. For anyone with questions, they can call (503)-986-1388, or visit the website. Information can also be found on the TravelSalem website.
