The start of basketball season has been neutral thus far for both the boys and girls teams. The records for the girls team is 17-4 overall [9-0 conference], and 8-6 overall [5-5 conference] for the boys team. The girls team is looking to go deep in the playoffs and be the state champions for the third year in a row.
A prominent leader for the girls team is Evina Westbrook ‘17. She is the second highest ranked High School player in the country according to a report done by ESPN. Westbrook has committed to the University of Tennessee for basketball for next year. Westbrook has been an invaluable asset for both of South’s state championships.
A leader for the boys team is Jaden Nielsen-Skinner ‘19, a two year starting point guard for the Saxons. He is known for being a strong offensive presence for opposing defenses.
The Saxons girls team has had multiple Division 1 players go through the program in recent years such as Katie McWilliams and Jordan Woodvine, playing for Oregon State and Boise State respectively. Both were big pieces in winning Souths back to back state championships.
