With the Valentine’s season approaching, a great deal of commercialism seems to center around the assumption that everyone is coupled up. From restaurant deals to holiday episodes on tv, the world just seems to forget that relationships are not a given. The likelihood of an individual to happen to be in a relationship come Valentine’s Day is hardly different from any other day of the year, and yet expectations rise immensely at that time of year. In order to show a little love to those independently celebrating the holiday, here are some ideas lesser-suggested, for the single person on Valentine’s day.
For some, the inherent romance of the holiday makes the Valentine’s Day spirit irresistible, even when they’re not coupled up. Whether it is the hopeless romantic or just a lover of cheesy films, Netflix offers a wide range of rom-coms perfectly fit for one to spend the evening with. One needs only make some popcorn, grab some chocolates, and settle in for a lovely lone movie marathon.
Alternatively, for the cynic, the streaming service also offers a shockingly large selection of serial killer movies, documentaries, and tv shows. What better to turn away from the gooey, emotional vibes of Valentine’s Day than the grit and danger of horror movies? Besides, it doesn’t technically count as participating if one happens to take advantage of discount chocolate, and it goes perfectly with adrenaline.
Perhaps the perfect companion for the singleton this February, though, is the one who has been there all along. For those who have a dog, cat, or other animal buddy in their life, Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to show them just how much they are loved. Taking advantage of sales can get a new leash, treat, or toy for a beloved pet, and romantic walks through the park are all the better when another human is replaced by a pup.
