Winter wrestling season began on Dec. 3. Since then, the Varsity team has had four tournaments and won one. Some seniors to watch are Mario Jimenez-Cruz ‘17, Adrian Zaldana ‘17 and Chris Bledsoe ‘17.
“As a team I think the season is going well. I feel like we have a good amount of people returning and a lot of 1st year wrestlers,”Jimenez-Cruz ‘17 said.
With the recent weather conditions, some of the meets have had to be re-scheduled to later dates. On saturday South’s coed varsity team took 7th place at a tournament in Tualatin getting 123 points.The top finisher for South was Ricky Villarreal taking 2nd place.
“Beating North is gonna help with confidence for the rest of the season,” Zeus Baltazar ‘19 said. “The most consistent wrestler this season has been Ricky Villarreal,” Baltazar ‘19 said.
Their next meet will be on the 2nd of February against the Forest Grove Vikings. The meet will start at 7:00 pm at South Salem High School.
On the 17th of February West Salem High School is hosting a district wide wrestling meet. The meet will last 2 days. It will start at 12 pm on the 17th and at 10 am on the 18th.
