American Singer Lavern Baker, originally Delores Williams, was one of the influential voices of R&B in the 1950’s.Her most famous songs include “Tweedle Dee”, “Jim Dandy”, and “I cried a Tear”. “Tweedle Dee” reached number 14 on the US pop charts when performed by Baker, but reached number two when covered by white singer Georgia Gibbs, who Baker tried and failed to sue. Baker later died of heart disease in 1997.
