South’s second annual Spring IB Visual Arts show held its opening reception Tuesday, Mar. 21 from 4-6 p.m. and will continue to be on display until Thursday, Mar. 23 in the Little Theater, the lobby lobby, and on panels placed in the art hallway for the show. IB Visual Arts teacher, Katie Gilmour, said the students have been devoting time to their displays since the start of the new semester, and she encourages parents and visitors to view the art during evening conferences on Mar. 22 and 23.
“The IB Spring Visual Arts Show is a unique experience where you can see the work of some of our most serious Junior/Senior art students,” Gilmour said. “It should be stunning to see so much creativity packed into one space.”
Including almost 200 pieces, the show features almost twice as much work as last year with each student contributing between three to 11 pieces. A variety of different mediums will be exhibited, including two-dimensional and three dimensional work, and digital projections.
“It’s really interesting to see how people put up their works to make it cohesive; you can tell what different styles people have,” Zoelle Collins ‘17 said, who has been taking art at South since freshman year.
Both she and Alexandria Clark ‘17 are participating in the show for the second time
“I hope viewers take away from the show all the different kinds of mediums people can do,”
Clark said. “All the different stories and techniques people use. It’s really cool when they put it all together.”
