Abby Fedor ‘20 has been an invaluable new addition for South’s Tennis team. Fedor is playing her first year of tennis as a freshman at South, and she is already on the varsity roster as the leading ‘singles’ player, playing in the top spot for the majority of South’s matches.
Fedor has played in nine tournaments this season, and has only lost 2 matches, one to Anya Gerasimova from West, and one to Hannah Childress from McNary. Up until the Saxon team’s 2-6 loss against South Eugene, the Saxon’s were undefeated. Fedor recognizes the support she receives, and still has high hopes for this season, believing in her teammate’s ability to support each other.
“My biggest supporters are my parents, coaches, and teammates. Even though I play singles, I still feel a tight bond with my team, and it’s great being able to play with teammates that are so supportive,” Fedor said.
Fedor has three more years to play for South, and she is already in the top singles position for South. Fedor enjoys playing singles, and shows ambition to expand on the natural talent she possesses.
“My favorite thing about playing [singles] is the amount of variety you can put into your shots, and how to position yourself to win using strategy, Fedor said. “I would love to make it to state and be seeded high as a senior. I’m not thinking too much about districts [this year], I’m taking time to learn my competition and improve myself.”
