Track and Field

The South Track and Field team is now officially in the middle of their season. The season has had a slow start as they have not won a meet yet, but they are improving day after day.
“I think that we have a lot of potential and we have a lot of new people especially freshman so our team is growing,” Anna Chau ‘19 said.
In addition to their potential, their success is dependent on their work ethic during practice.
“I feel confident as long as we keep working hard and go to practice and work on our crafts I think we should be good,” Alex Sanchez ‘18 said.
The Saxons have multiple leaders on the team such as Chau who has won the past four 1500m dashes, and has been on Varsity since freshman year running long distance events. Kaia Alexander ‘19 competes in multiple throwing sports such as discus, shot put, and javelin. She has also won the past four meets but with javelin instead of dashes. She also broke the school record on April 5 with 144 feet passing former record holder Danielle Hayward ‘08 by a total of 16 feet and 6 inches set by Hayward in 2008.
The Saxons next meet is the Dean Nice Invitational at Gresham High School at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, April 28. There Gresham, Clackamas, and other schools will be competing.
