Generation Y, most commonly known as Millennials, consists of people who were born between the years 1980-1995, however, many people consider Gen Z to be part of the Millennials, but actually it consists of people who were born in the years 1996-2010. Generations like the “Baby Boomers” and Gen X criticize the Millennials for their “privileged” life. The Millennials were born into “luxury” where most of the world [except third-world countries] has access to the internet. They are also known for their impoliteness for their elders and the fact that they dislike being under an authority figure.
“I think millennials are disliked because of the privileges that we have, as well as the standards we have don’t appear to be as high for manual labor,” Alex Clark ‘17 said.
Resources and technological advances that humans have progressed in the past half century would almost be unimaginable to people from another century. A majority of the technology that is available seemed to have come so easily and readily to everyone today that people have become desensitized from all of the high tech items that are present today.
“I think people dislike millennials because we try to act like something we aren’t, and also because we try to grow up too fast,” Marlene Nunez ‘18 said.
Some kids today wear make-up as early as middle school and many of them want to grow up as soon as possible. The kids today tend to act a lot older than their real age and many of which reject their current age in favor of being older. Millennials are typically disliked because the older generations believe that they act like they should have anything they want and be treated with respect. Their desire to have everything they want gives the Millennials a representation of being highly disliked among the older generations.
