March Madness is quickly approaching, as 64 teams battle for the title of NCAA Division 1 champions. Selection Sunday took place March 11, revealing which teams will be fighting for the title this year. The Virginia Cavaliers, Xavier Musketeers, Villanova Wildcats, and Kansas Jayhawks were chosen as the top seeds in each region of the tournament. Play in games will begin March 13-14 followed by first round games on March 15-16.
March Madness’ popularity has only grown over the past years, with an average of 11.9 million viewers in 2017. But let us look back at some of the champions from the past few years. Last year North Carolina took home the title after beating Gonzaga 71-65. In 2016, Villanova pulled out the victory against North Carolina, beating them 77-74 on a 3 point buzzer beater.
Though these teams were highly favored, there have been some big upsets over the years, making people believe that anything can happen, when it comes to the March Madness Tournament. So when filling out your bracket remember to include some upsets and to not always pick the better seed. But also remember that the possibility in filling out a perfect bracket is 1 in 9.2 quintillion.
