The Saxon fall sports have started their preparations for the 2018 season. Next season is looking to improve all around and make the playoffs for all sports. Although these teams are losing seniors from last years teams, they have many players stepping up to take over.
The Saxon football team is coming off of a 4-6 [four wins six losses] season, losing in the first round of the playoffs to Central Catholic and ending the season ranked 23 in the state. The Saxons are returning key starters Elijah Enomoto-Haole ‘19 at quarterback for the Saxons for his senior year, along with Ashton Adams ‘19 at offensive tackle. Also, Diego Fuimaono ‘19 played tight end this season and is a three-star national recruit. Though it was a disappointing season, the Saxons are hoping to improve, especially with some key players coming back next season.
The Saxon volleyball team is coming off a 22-8 season, placing fourth in state at the OSAA state tournament. The Saxons had an impressive post season, despite placing second in league, and were able to go on and represent the Greater Valley Conference well. The Sprague Olympians, who won league did not place in the tournament. However, due to the loss of ten seniors, next year is expected to be a challenge for the younger inexperienced players and will most likely be the beginning of a rebuilding process for the program.
The Saxon soccer teams will be coming off two successful seasons in league play. The Boys Soccer team finished with a record of 6-7-2 [six wins seven losses two ties] , placing third in league and getting past the first round of playoffs before falling to number one seed and runner-up Jesuit. The Saxons lost six seniors, however also had five freshman on the team, and are hoping for a farther run in the playoffs next year. The Girls Soccer team finished 9-2-3, placing second in league and losing in the first round of playoffs to Lake Oswego in overtime penalty kicks 3-4. The team graduated five seniors and had five freshman on the team this past season.
The Saxons fall sports teams will kick off at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year and hope to represent South well, as the first sports teams of the new year.
