Saxon Football faces off against the Bend High Lava Bears tonight as they hope to secure another win, changing their record to 3-2. The Bears are currently ranked 11 in the state and last in league as they have only faced one team in league, West Salem, losing by a score of 27-56. Meanwhile the South Salem Saxons are ranked 27 overall, but third in league, coming off an exciting and hard fought victory versus Sprague on Fri, Sept. 21 by a score of 21-20.
The Lava Bears have performed well this season, going 3-1 thus far and scoring 25+ points per game wirth their only loss coming from the 12 ranked West Salem Titans by a score of 56-27. Their last matchup versus the Roseburg Indians they won by 20 points with a score of 40-20 to give the Lava Bears fired up going into this week. However, they will be facing off versus a fired up South Salem team in Saxon country tonight.
Running back Ryan Rickman ‘20 has lead an efficient run game so far this season coming up big for the Saxons rushing for 290 yards this season on 47 carries and two touchdowns. In addition to Rickman, Zach Webster ‘20 had three catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns and Gabe Johnson ‘21 had back to back interceptions to turn the Saxons around in the fourth. The Saxons hope to continue the same high level of play as they face a very talented Bears team. The Saxons take on the Bend at 7:15pm on Bennett field.
