With the winter season starting to go into the second half of the season, the stakes are starting to get higher. There are multiple games that are coming up this week to help extend South’s successful winter seasons as it is coming closer to playoffs. Many different varsity squads have been very successful and have the chance to continue it in these next few days.
The swim teams have been overlooked in league play as both the boys and girls teams are currently undefeated. With only one meet left in their league schedule versus the Sprague Olympians tomorrow night, the Saxons are looking at taking the swimming league title in the first year of the new Mountain Valley Conference. Their next meet is tomorrow on Thursday, Jan. 31 where they will take on the Olympians in their final league swim meet starting at 7pm at the Kroc Center.The boys basketball team has had very similar league success as they are also undefeated so far in league play with almost half the league season left to play. Their 6-0 league record (13-3 overall record) has propelled the team to a second overall ranking in 6A basketball according to the OSAA. Their next game is also tomorrow where they will take on the McNary Celtics for their first meeting this season, the game starts at 5:45pm at home. The girls have had good league play so far this season as well, only having one close loss to the West Salem Titans. The girls’ 5-1 league record (11-5 overall record) is currently putting them in the 18 rank of OSAA and tied for second place in league behind their next opponent, the McNary Celtics. The girls will hope to take McNary out of first place and be there instead. The game is tomorrow at 7:15pm at home as well.
