Last night was another successful night for the Saxon basketball teams as both teams have officially clinched the Mountain Valley Conference title for both the boys and girls divisions. Although both teams have one more game left on the schedule versus the McNary Celtics, the senior night was also celebrating their league titles after their wins against the McKay Royal Scots.
The girls won their game last night versus the Lady Scots dominantly 57-32 to secure their place as MVC champions. The Saxons were led by Delaney Keith ‘22 who had 16 points and Victoria Stafford ‘20 with 11 points. The Lady Saxons are heading into their last league game of the season ranked 11 in the state with their opponent, the Lady Celtics, go into the game ranked 31. With the Lady Saxons only having one senior on the squad in guard Madelynn Hoffman ‘19, the Saxons are looking to continue the success from this season onto the next.
The boys also came out with a 89-57 victory against the Scots last night, they go into their last league game versus the Celtics as league champions. Their win versus McKay was led by Jaden Nielsen-Skinner ‘19 who scored 28 points with big contributors in Treyden Harris ‘19 and Connor Bigelow ‘19, they scored 18 and 11 respectively, also provided some help. The boys look to tie the series versus McNary after a close loss with a score of 57-59 on Jan. 31. The Saxons are hoping to take back bragging rights before heading into playoffs.
