Ben Handrich is a new counselor here at South for last names He-Mc. He has been a school counselor for four years, teaching English and Avid before that.
Handrich loves counseling and said that, “…counseling is my opportunity to have really authentic conversations with students; what motivates them, what their passions are, and what their goals are in life. It’s such an honor when students are willing to open up and be vulnerable in their conversations with me, and it’s what keeps me coming back every day and every year.”
Kelly Shipley is a science teacher who teaches Physics and Chemical Systems. She has an impressive list of classes that she has taught over her years, such as, biology, earth science, environmental science, forensics and algebra. Shipley was looking for a fresh start and so she left her place of work in McMinnville and transferred to South.
“The biggest reason I teach is for kids. I like to be able to help kids and I like to make them feel more confident…” Shipley said. Shipley said that she likes to make kids feel like science is accessible to them, especially with all the learning and growing up that happens in the years of high school.
Sarah Buchloz is one of our new assistant principals, not only is she new to this school, she is new to this administrative position! She worked as a math teacher and a behavior specialist before this, along with many other opportunities, all of which she has thrived in.
Bucholz’s itch for new opportunities have led her from Sprague, to Parish and now here to South. She loves to try new things and enjoys a good challenge, hence why she has landed so many places when openings arrive.
“I just really enjoy working with people and we have an amazing staff here that have been so welcoming ,” Buchloz said.
The students here at South welcome all of our new staff and we look forward to working with them, throughout the year.
