Halloween is one of the most celebrated holidays in the country with a lot of fun activities surrounding it. Even South has its own trick or treating event. Whether you are going out or staying home, there are a lot of different things to do for Halloween.
If you are looking to go to a haunted house, The Nightmare Factory at the Oregon School for the Deaf is open Halloween night, as well as, Fear PDX in Portland and Fearlandia in Tigard.
“I’m a coward, so I haven’t been to the Nightmare Factory yet, but I admire people who go. I’ve heard it’s really scary.” Corrin Hoyer ‘21 said.
There are also lots of things to do at home for Halloween. One could chose to watch scary movies and embrace the Halloween spirit. Friday the Thirteenth, Scream, Hocus-Pocus, Beetlejuice, The Addams Family and The Rocky Horror Picture Show are all classic Halloween movies.
For a less scary night, one can carve pumpkins, make Halloween cookies or pass out candy.
“I like to eat the candy,” Christine Meritt ‘22 said.
South hosts an annual Neighborhood Trick or Treat Night on Halloween from 6:00 to 7:30. Students can get involved by signing up to hand out candy or bringing younger siblings or friends. Those who wish to hand out candy can sign up with a club or group of friends to help decorate the door and then dress up to pass out candy. Talk to Ms. August in the leadership office to get involved.
“My favorite thing to do [on Halloween] is to do a Halloween door at school because you get to give candy to lots of little kids and you get to see all their cute costumes and you get to make their night better.” Taryn Roche ‘21 said. “I’m dressing up as one of the Incredibles.”
