The South Salem News crew works hard every day to bring the school interesting stories to read, make podcasts for the school to listen to, and provide coverage on every game and event. Every month The Clypian comes out, delivering stories to the whole school. Students pick up the paper and read the stories, but who is behind the computer writing?
Annie Biondello ‘23 joined News beginning this school year as a reporter:
“I thought it would be a fun experience and I like writing.” she explained. Although she doesn’t know what her favorite thing to do in the class is, she says it’s “very busy.” She likes the color sunset orange and enjoys sports medicine and science. Outside of school, she likes to play basketball, and she enjoys Christmastime. On the weekends she tries to catch up on all the sleep she lost during the school week. She can’t live without her family. If she was an animal, she would be a dolphin, because:“they’re fun and beautiful.”
Kelsie Parker ‘22 has worked on the Clypian’s social media team since late last year, using Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook among other websites to spread information and post updates at Saxon games or events.
“I really like being involved in things at school and I liked being able to know about all of the things that are happening, and being able to tell people about it.” she said. “I think it’s very welcoming and everyone is very nice to each other and it’s just an overall nice thing to look forward to during the day”.
Her favorite color is pink and she likes the movie Mary Poppins, and likes watching The Walking Dead. She enjoys english class and reads outside of school, along with playing tennis. She likes Christmas and hanging out with friends and family, and says she can’t live without her dog.
Claire Graham ‘22 is an editor on the Clypian News team and has been on the crew since her freshman year here at South: “I love writing, I love how exciting it is to be the first one on a story and analyze what’s happening in the world and in our school, and kind of be an insider on [the news]. It’s a great community and is really fun to see the publication go from just a couple of ideas, to this kind of full-fledged newspaper.” she said,“At the end of the day it’s a lot of fun and a really nice community and were all working towards this creative goal and it’s really fun to do that together.” In the class she enjoys editing and watching the stories change and unfold throughout the issues making. Graham’s favorite color is light pink and she likes to watch La La Land, and The Empire Strikes Back. Outside of school she likes to hike, play video games and hanging out with friends. The Christmas holidays are her favorite and you can often find her hanging out with friends on the weekend. Graham says she would be a dog because they get a lot of attention, are really cute and live a simple life.
Victor Rodriguez ‘23 is a reporter on the News team and has been involved since the beginning of this school year. Rodriguez joined the news class wanting to continue his writings from last year when he was in his middle school’s journalism class. His favorite thing to do is research, he said, “ it’s fun to do research on new topics I never knew about.” he says the class is very friendly and he can always get help when he needs it. He likes the color green and algebra class. Outside of school he likes hanging out with his friends and can’t wait for Christmas to roll around. If he was an animal, he would be a giraffe, because he’s tall and he would want to see how tall he would be as a giraffe.
The News crew writes, reports and covers everything that happens at South. They all work together to produce the Clypian and keep the students well informed. These are just a few of the hard working individuals who come together to make up the Clypian News team.
