Last night South Salem beat out Oregon City 68-56 in the 2nd round of the OSAA playoffs.
Despite the loss, the Pioneers put up a strong fight against the two seed Saxons keeping it close the whole game. Led by Nick Zuro’s 10 points in the first half, South held a 6 point lead going into the break. From there, the Saxons were then unable to pull away until late in the 4th quarter due to a combination of strong offense and poor free-throw shooting by the Pioneers.
With the win, the Saxon’s championship hopes stay alive as they advance to play in the quarter-finals at the University of Portland’s Chiles Center. Their opponent, the 18-8 Lake Oswego Lakers, have been cruising through the first two rounds winning by an average of 17.0 points.
South’s game against Lake Oswego is scheduled to tip-off this Thursday at 8:15 pm. If you can’t make it out to Portland, the game will be available to listen to on the radio at KBZY (1490 AM), and the OSAA Radio Network, or you can stream the games live on the NFHS Network for free.
