On Sunday, July 26, approximately 1000 demonstrators gathered in front of Portland’s Justice Center and the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse for the 60th day of protests. The crowd was significantly smaller than past nights and remained split between the two buildings for much of the evening. There were chants and speeches, as is typical for these protests. Around midnight, federal officers began to engage with the crowd using gas and impact munitions, in response to the shooting of a handful of fireworks and some banging on the reinforced fence. Confrontations between demonstrators and officers occurred for the next few hours, until federal officers came out of the courthouse and swept the streets.
