Most students are not familiar with the options they have when it comes to the club sports available. With the youth club sports market growing 55 percent since 2010 now is the perfect time to get involved. These are a few of the club sports available to play here at South Salem High School.
Lacrosse: This sport is a fast paced team sport originally created by the Native Americans. It is similar to ice hockey except it is on grass/turf while using sticks with a net on the end to handle the ball in. The point of the game is to score more goals than your opponent in the span of four quarters.
“Lacrosse has so many things I love about it. If I had to choose one thing, it would be the competitiveness.” said Tanner R. class of ‘22. “All the players show up to practice ready to work hard for upcoming games.”
There is both girls and boys lacrosse available at South during the spring.
Water polo: While treading water the goal is also to score more goals than the opponent. Water polo is an extremely team oriented sport with seven players per team in the water at a time. Playing this sport is a great way to get fit seeing as the average water polo player swims 1.600 meters in one game.
Girls and boys water polo is available during the fall. Go to the South Salem Saxons Water Polo website for more information.
Bowling, is a sport everyone knows as knocking down pins with a heavy ball, however competitive bowling is much more interesting. Teams compete for the best average score of three games played adding a level of enjoyment to the already fun sport to play.
