On Dec. 16, the Salem-Keizer School District sent an email to all parents and students. A school safety advisory regarding a TikTok challenge encouraging students to commit violence on Friday, Dec. 17. This has led to many schools being shut down. The email sent by the Salem-Keizer public school states “Salem-Keizer Public Schools is aware of the latest TikTok challenge, circulating nationally on social media channels, threatening school safety on Friday, Dec. 17.”
Though no threat has been deemed credible in the Salem-Keizer area “The district safety team is in close contact with local law enforcement partners who currently do not believe the threat is credible.” That being said students on TikTok have been calling in bomb and shooting threats across the nation.
