Ava Templeton is a senior at South. She is an active member of South’s community working with Saxon Strong. Not only that, but she works with Live to Tell, which Saxon Strong is a branch of. She is helping her community to better their mental health.
“Probably my biggest involvement is I am part of a local nonprofit- I am on the board, and I’m the treasurer. [The organization] is called Live to Tell. It’s a suicide prevention nonprofit, and South’s chapter here is Saxon Strong, and I am also a big part of that. That is a really important part of my life just because I think mental health, and suicide prevention need more awareness, and I like being a part of that. I am also a huge part of the leadership class here at South. I have been since my sophomore year. I do a lot of things inside and outside of school for leadership- I stay very involved. Even on my release periods, I’m usually doing something for leadership. Other than that, I work a lot. I work at Oswego Grill in Wilsonville, which is where I live. I work about 15-20 hours a week, depending on the week. That takes up a lot of my time outside of school. And then family and homework.”
Templeton has ten siblings, two biological, ages 21 and 23. The other eight are step siblings, ages, 15, 15, 18, 19, 20, 25, 27 and 29.
“I take a few IB classes, IB SL II, IB chemistry II and IB English II. I’m not doing the diploma but I do take IB classes. They are a good part of my time. The other classes I really enjoy are anatomy and physiology with Gilmore, and medical terminology with Abby [Mrs. Diaz]. I’m applying to college right now to be a nursing major, so kind of the science-y and the more medical focused classes are the ones that I enjoy the most. I have a lot of science classes in my schedule. Other than that, those are the main things I do at school. A few classes that I enjoyed that I didn’t mention are the Clypian, I was a part of that for a little while. I was on the social media team for about a year, which was a good experience and I enjoyed it. Having a class with Eriksen is always a good time. I also took athletic training with Abby, or Mrs. Diaz my sophomore year, an experience I greatly enjoyed.”
