South’s Crochet Club meets in the North Library on Thursdays from 3:30-4:00 p.m, Mrs. Rodgers and her daughter, Celeste Rodgers ‘26, run the club. Rodgers has been crocheting for four years and teaches all levels including total beginners. Rodgers also teaches the basics, different styles and techniques of crocheting.

Last year we made a bumble bee and kinda surveyed everyone to see what they were interested in so a lot of kids wanted to make some kind of plushie and it took most of the year to make it,

said Mrs. Rodgers.

This year they have multiple projects that they are preparing to do.

“This year we started with a simpler project, we have been making a beanie so it is more of the same stitch over and over,” Mrs. Rodgers said. They plan on making a pouch to hold headphones in for the club’s next project.

Only some people who come to the crochet club make the same projects. Some kids come and bring supplies to work on their projects. Rodgers is there to help with anything.

“If you are working on a different project I can help you with that too,” Rodgers said.

Some kids come to the club and crochet but others, like Ellie Bowman ‘26, come to hang out with friends.

“I usually sit with my friends and talk with them while they crochet,” Bowman said.

Bowman enjoys watching everyone’s projects come together even though she does not crochet.

My favorite part is watching the items they are crocheting come together and getting to see their reactions when they are finished,

Bowman said.
