IB Biology is led by Danielle Ammon, and is a 2 year class. According to ibo.org, “Biologists investigate the living world at all levels using many different approaches and techniques.” At South Salem High School, Ammon has the class do labs, take notes, do case studies and make projects/presentations.

“IB Bio is a 2 year class. If you want to take year 2 you have to have taken year 1. But you do not have to take year 2 if you do not want to take the IB Exam,” Ammon said.

The Difference Between Regular and IB Biology

Regular credit biology covers molecular construction and complex metabolic reactions. Along with elements and environments that make whole ecosystems function. IB biology dives deeper into the subject. The can focus on how the human body works, or why ecosystem balance is so important.

“The main differences between regular credit biology and IB biology is the depth of which we cover the concepts as well as the pace. We go into a lot more detail in IB and we move a lot faster,” Ammon said.

The Main Focus

The main focus on both the classes is living things. How they function, work and thrive. How each living thing has different systems and things it need to survive and live.

“IB Biology is a fantastic class where we learn so much about living things, make relationships with your classmates and do challenging things,

Ammon said.

But like every other IB class, it is going to be more difficult then the regular credit classes. It helps students learn more than they would in regular biology. It goes over similar topics, but covers them in more detail and goes at a faster pace.

“IB Biology is challenging but it is not impossible! It is probably a 7/10,” Ammon said.
