Project Generation: The Dufault Family

The Dufault family has been a well-known name throughout South Salem High School. Zach is still holding onto the Dufault legacy by subbing at South Salem High School and now being in charge of the calm room.

The Memories

After attending South as a student from 2004-2009 and now working at the school, Dufault has made many memories.

“One as a student is looking for the bomb shelter underground somewhere in this building. As a staff member, getting to work with my brother and my dad,” Dufault said.

While attending South, Dufault participated in many activities. Some being Choir and leadership.

“I was a part of too much, from sports to choir, to leadership. I did a ton. I think what I loved most was that I met and befriended kids from all different walks of life. And I became a much more well-rounded person because of it. Like I can talk sports with the jocks and then discuss the fall of the Jedi order with a nerdy kid,” Dufault said.

Changes In The School

With being at South for many years, Dufault has been able to see the changes in South, one being the support system.

“I will tell you what, students have it so good today. For example, when you guys finish finals you get to hug a lama, relax in a calm room and eat food. Get pampered. When I went here they patted ya on the back and said ‘Hope ya passed,’” Dufault said.

Dufault does think that these changes are good but thinks some topics could be focused on more.

“I think change is always good. But also, I would love for there to be more of a focus on learning. There is nothing more powerful in this world than being educated,” Dufault said.

Dufault’s Meaning Of Being A Saxon

To others being a Saxon can mean many different things, but for Dufault being a Saxon has a different meaning.

“It means that you hold yourself to a certain standard. We are a school of excellence. That is excellence in and out of the classroom,” Dufault said.
