As winter comes to an end, spring is quickly approaching. With that, spring sports will be starting. The annual players’ meeting was held on February 20, 2025, for those who are interested in the program. This meeting is welcoming to newcomers who want information on what the season would look like if they were to start playing.
Successful Tennis Season
Due to last year’s successful season, many have become interested in joining South’s tennis program. This is not limited to freshmen, girls of all grades are planning on joining. Sofia Kunnap ‘27 shares what she is most looking forward to this tennis season.
“This tennis season I am looking forward to improving my state of mind, playing this game, learning new skills, and having fun with my teachers, friends, and peers,” Kunnap said.
Overcoming the Nerves
Starting a new sport can be nerve-wracking for some. Emmalynn Cox ‘27, who is also new to the program, shares what she is most nervous about for starting tennis.
“The matches. Like I have said, I have never done it so I am just scared for those,” Cox said.
Coach Renee has been coaching the Girls Tennis JV2 and JV teams at South for three years. Coach Renee shares what past seasons have been like.
“There have been seasons where we are in the gym a lot because there is so much rain that we can not get on the courts as often as we can, but like last season, we were on the courts a ton. Past seasons, there is a lot of growth with brand new players and veteran players alike and lots of laughs,” Coach Renee said.
The first official Tennis Practice will be at the South tennis courts on Wednesday, 26th, 2025 at 3:45 pm.
