Four Years of Closure for Crater Lake National Park Trail

Due to safety issues, the only trail to get to Crater Lake, the Cleetwood Cove Trail, will close to the public for nearly four years. The expectation is for it to open to the public in 2029.

Even though the trail access to the lake will close off to the public, the Crater Lake National Park itself will remain open. During the time period, there will be other opportunities to see the lake from afar and other tourist spots

Crater Lake was once a volcano thousands of years ago. Though its eruption caused the mountain structure to collapse and form a caldera. Founded by William Gladstone Steel, it took him 17 years to establish the area as a park. The lake is now considered to be in the top 10 lists of the deepest lakes on Earth. Crater lake is solely filled with rain and snow, with no waterways flowing into the lake.
