With hotter weather rolling in, people are starting to make their summer bucket lists.

Yazmin Gomez ‘26 and Caylie Ownes ‘26 both attend Madras High School. Owens plans to learn how to dance so she can participate in different events, such as at jaripeos, if any come up. In addition to dancing, Owens will be finding ways to improve when showing her pig, Titio, at the country fair for her Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter.

During the showing, we walk the pig around a pen with a judge with other pigs. There is also a market, which means the pig is being judged on its structure, size and ability to produce the best meat. There is also a thing called showmanship, which is based on how you show and how controlled you are,

Outside of working on her FFA performance, Owens wants to travel around her home state, Oregon, and discover new places.

I would like to travel somewhere and find pretty places in my state to visit. I think it is important to appreciate nature, and I would like to discover new places,

One big thing on Gomez’s bucket list is getting her driver’s license. This is a big thing for Gomez because she could drive herself around and would not have to rely on others to go to places. Gomez would also like to work on her soccer skills during the summer so she can prepare for her senior season.

My goal I have for myself is to go to the gym consistently and go to summer soccer practices so I can be in shape by the time soccer season starts. During the season, I would like to score a goal, which I have yet to do. I also just want to better myself in that sport because I have been playing since I was four years old,
