What started off as a regular Wednesday for South Salem High School has quickly become the opposite. Usually, all Salem-Keizer school’s follow the late-start bell schedule every Wednesday; starting classes one hour later than normal. However, there is no bell schedule today because shockingly, there is no school.

At 8:17 a.m. this morning, Principal Tara Romine alerted students, parents and guardians through ParentSquare and Gmail that today’s schedule would start at 11:30 a.m. instead of 9:30 a.m. Romine said this was due to a power outage, and that later in the morning there may be further delays and notices. Shortly after this message, Romine sent another at 10:24 a.m. In this latest ParentSquare message Romine said,

“Due to the ongoing power outage impacting our school we have decided to cancel school today, Wednesday, September 24, 2025.”

While noting that Portland General Electric (PGE) — South’s chosen electrical company — had yet to disclose when the outage would resolve, Romine reassured that after school activities will still commence.
