As time progresses, so does technology. The capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) have vastly improved since its first introduction. AI truly started making moves in the public in 2022, with the beginning of ChatGPT. Since then, more AI apps have been made and businesses are implementing them into their systems. Before 2025, AI was most popularly known as just a chatbot. It gave fast replies and quick sources, making it easy to use and helpful in a pinch. Now, AI is everywhere.
According to Virginia Tech, “There is no denying that Artificial Intelligence has changed our lives. However, some might argue if it is for the better.”
The National Archives Museum in Washington, D.C. is implementing AI usage to bring its visitors a new exhibition. This will feature a digital choose-your-own adventure with records within the museum.
According to Smithsonian magazine, “Called ‘The American Story,’ the immersive journey will use artificial intelligence to put visitors in the driver’s seat as they explore the records held in the National Archives.”
The idea of AI seems almost too good to be true. Something that can do the work of humans in less time.
According to NASA, “Artificial intelligence refers to computer systems that can perform complex tasks normally done by human reasoning, decision making, creating, etc.”
But in reality, with that quickness, the quality of the work plummeted. Without human experience, AI sounds exactly as it is, a bot.
But not all these AI incorporations are going well. Duolingo, the popular language-learning app, recently announced an initiative to push the company toward an ‘AI-first’ approach. Duolingo’s CEO, who presented the idea, was met with heavy pushback, as it would fully automate various positions in the company, limiting job opportunity.
According to Fortune, “He outlined his vision for the language-learning app to become an ‘AI-first’ organization, including phasing out contractors if AI could do their work.”
Many other issues have come forth with the increasing use of AI. With the end of the year coming up, Spotify listeners are looking forward to their 2025 Spotify Wrapped, hoping that it does not come out as terribly as last year’s did.
According to Spotify, “Through the combination of Spotify’s powerful personalization technology and generative AI, we’ve created hyper-personalized Wrapped experiences that connect millions of listeners worldwide with the music and audio they love.”
Two new AI features were introduced in 2024, the AI Podcast and AI DJ. Though many could agree that these two tools are never used, due to the very little human experience within the AI. Similarly, Spotify’s 2024 Wrapped was assisted by AI, hence why the quality was awful compared to that of 2023’s Wrapped.
According to Still Listening, “Spotify would rather use AI features than provide a creative, considered and unique yearly wrap-up.”
