Breaking News: At 9:20 am Tuesday, the metal detectors at Sprague High School detected a handgun in a student’s backpack. The 17-year-old student was taken into custody immediately.
School staff were alerted when the weapon was detected. Sprague staff searched the student’s backpack, where the handgun was located, and it was immediately secured. The school officials notified the Salem police department. The 17-year-old was then transported to Marion County Juvenile Detention Center with a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
There was no disturbance on campus during this time. The investigation is ongoing
